Cultivate, Waltham Forest’s first urban food growing festival, has lined up over 50 events, including a conference, food-a-fair and gardener’s question time as part of its Cultivate Waltham Forest food growing festival this Spring.

The event aims to mark Waltham Forest as the garden of London harnessing the knowledge, skills and enthusiasm of amateur and professional food and related growers.   Confirmed highlights include:

  • Grow Waltham Forest: a conference shaping the future of food growing in the Borough led by Capital Growth
  • The Big Dig: A borough-wide day preparing to grow food together
  • Gardeners’ Q&A: Expert green-fingered tips, ideas and solutions to help own food cultivation
  • Food-a-Fair: A day out celebrating food growing and making from plot to plate
  • Farmers’ Market Day: Keeping it fresh and green in Waltham Forest
  • Fringe Festival: Promoting food growing initiatives such as a Seed Swap,  workshops including one on Finding Space To Grow, drop in centres and tours across the whole community
  • Get Growing In Your School: How to start and run your own school garden

“There is an exciting week planned and we want to make the most of all the opportunities there are in the borough to grow food and encourage local people to get involved,” explained Councillor Clyde Loakes, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment for Waltham Forest Council.
